Year One enjoyed a trip to Kew Gardens on a beautiful sunny day early in May. The trip complemented our Science curriculum, in particular our work on plants. The girls participated in a special workshop, where they became ‘Kew plant scientists’, exploring, investigating and identifying a variety of plants. They enjoyed using magnifying glasses to get a closer look at patterns in leaves and used crayons and paper to make a rubbing of the bark on different trees. Bella, the Kew Gardens workshop leader, talked about the different parts of a plant and what each part does. The girls returned from the trip with an excellent understanding of plants and have since enjoyed watching their broad bean seeds sprout and grow in class.
