The girls at Old Vicarage School celebrated the Chinese New Year of the Rat in style this year on Friday 24th January.  The school was decorated with red lucky messages and pictures and the girls came to school dressed in traditional Chinese outfits or wearing auspicious colours.  The day’s activities started with Chinese and Dragon dance workshops for Lower School, followed by art and craft activities throughout the day.  The girls made lanterns, dragons and fans and painted blossoms in the style of traditional Chinese paintings.  Upper School joined in the fun in the afternoon, attending workshops such as Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting and painting pandas; we even dropped in a spot of Chinese Maths!  The whole school made and decorated their own ‘hong bao’ (a lucky red envelope) and put in a gold chocolate coin too.  It was amazing to see smiles all round and the school greeting each other with ‘Gong Hei Fat Choi’ – Happy Chinese New Year.
