Music

Music plays a very important part in the life of the school. All the girls have regular music lessons with a specialist music teacher and will be taught to appreciate the music of many cultures and generations. A love of singing is fostered through those lessons and through the many opportunities to practise; from assemblies and hymn practice to performances and recitals. The focus is on developing skills but also confidence and the ability to listen to others around them. All girls are taught to play the recorder and introduced to the violin but we also offer individual lessons in piano, singing, flute, violin, clarinet, saxophone instruments and guitar in our newly built music suite.

Our Junior and Senior Choirs and Orchestra put on regular performances to parents and take part in competitions and festivals in Richmond and the surrounding area. A highlight is the annual visit to the Royal Albert Hall to take part in a massed children’s choir. Equally memorable are visits to Charterhouse Chapel to join other prep schools singing choral works in the wonderful acoustics and atmosphere.
