Music

Music plays a very important part in the life of the school. All the girls have regular music lessons with a specialist music teacher.

Lessons take place in our new Performing Arts wing, where girls are encouraged to explore their own creativity and taught how to compose their own music using the latest music technology; they use iPads and keyboards as well as traditional tuned and untuned percussion instruments. They are also taught to appreciate the music of many cultures and generations, composers and their works, and have a grounding in music theory. A love of singing is fostered through these lessons and through the many opportunities to practise, from singing assemblies to performances and recitals. The focus is on developing skills but also confidence and the ability to listen to others around them. All girls are taught to play the recorder and introduced to the violin, but we also offer individual music lessons in our music suite from our visiting peripatetic teachers; these lessons are in piano, singing, flute, violin, and other orchestral instruments.

Our Junior and Senior Choirs and Orchestra put on regular performances to parents and have taken take part in competitions and festivals in Richmond and the surrounding area. For several years, the choirs have performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena and The Rose Theatre, Kingston.
